Uche Sparks Dominant Palace Win at Shelbourne.
Even though entering their maiden continental campaign, Crystal Palace are adapting very quickly. Without key figures like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles left Dublin with a commanding win that all but secures them a spot in the Conference League qualifying rounds.
A further three points in their upcoming match against Finnish KuPS should be sufficient to seal direct entry to the last 16, especially after a previous stumble against Strasbourg.
Squad Members Seize the Opportunity
This match offered a platform for some of Palace's lesser-used players to impress. Christantus Uche, in only his second start since arriving on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a well-taken finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah contributed a second, finding the net for the second consecutive match.
A Shelbourne team that had finished their domestic season were no match against a mostly second-string Palace lineup. The Londoners were further weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with leg problems.
Dominance Asserted from the Outset
Despite heavy rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly took control. A flowing move in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, let Nketiah to set up Uche for a simple tap-in.
Midfielder Adam Wharton went close minutes later, fizzing a powerful shot over the bar. Nketiah subsequently appealed for a penalty after racing into the area, but the official waved away the appeals.
The formerArsenal striker didn't need to wait long to find his goal, prodding home from a yard out after Uche's effort had struck the post.
The home side were clinging on for dear life. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to avoid a booking for two robust challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the woodwork with a powerful header from a corner.

The match was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some weak challenges before coolly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
Following the break, manager Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest several individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring with his first touch, but saw his effort blocked.
Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one attempt strike off both posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then missed a sitter of a chance, indicating there is still scope for improvement in his game.
The only worry for Palace was a second-half injury to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to make his first-team debut, capping an otherwise perfect evening for the visiting side.
